Lieselotte is a fancy one.  Her dress and shoes alone cost more than most of my vessels here.  She knows she is fancy.  She is spoiled rotten and she really loves to be catered to.  And how could you NOT?  LOOK at her!  She is like having a piece of history in the house.  Lieselotte came from Germany years ago and was part of Lisa's personal collection.  I was always scared to have her here, mainly because she is so valuable.  I was always scared I would break her.  I've had her here for a year and now I realize how silly that was.  She is pretty sturdy, her jointed composition body is LARGE and very solid.  She is extremely active for her age, and she is older than she looks.  We think she died in 1919 of a stomach issue.  She shows us her home and her family a lot.  I feel like she thinks they are still out there, exactly as she remembers them.  She is in deep denial about her own death, and death in general.  It is a concept she doesn't understand.  And that's OK.  We see that sometimes with young kids.  We think she is about 8 or 9.  I do not know why she chose this vessel, but WOW, it was a good one to pick.  Perhaps, and this is very likely, she owned a doll similar to this.  Kestner dolls were very popular in Germany.  JDK dolls were probably in every storefront window and every little girl probably had one.  At least those whose fathers could afford it.  And hers could.  He worked for the city.  He was some sort of municipal clerk.  And yes, if you know history, that means he probably was put to service in the military when the war came.  Lieselotte used to have her own antique Victorian buggy, and many years ago, before Lisa went to Egypt, she had me sell it on ebay for her - also it's been a good long while since she hasn't had it.  The first thing she said to me when she came back from Egypt was "Where is my pram?".  This girl held a grudge for that long.  I apologized profusely and gave her a vintage baby carrier as a peace offering, which kind of worked.  But I promised her I would seek a Buggy for her, so I have to put it in here.  I really HOPE she goes to a home with some antiques and especially a pram from the turn of the century.  Lieselotte reads books if we put them near her.  She will turn pages and leave them open or close them at will.  She gets really upset if we pry about her death, so we do not push it.  he will blow the batteries on the K2 if we try to ask her anything about her own passing, but she answers questions easily about when her cat died, and how her grandfather died.  So she KNOWS about death, she just doesn't understand how it applies to her.  She has shown us the visions, and the memories of her life at home.  She was happy, her parents seemed stressed, but it was right before WW1, so I would have been stressed too.  She misses her house, her bed, and her own toys.  We try to put our oldest antiques near her so she feels better.  Lieselotte is a sensitive child, she is very emotional and she gets upset very easily. She is also very demanding, and very used to having a mother who catered to her every whim. We try to give her small gifts like tiny teddy bears and pieces of candy, and that helps. She likes to be able to see and hear other kids when possible.  She doesn't really like to sit with them or play with them, she just likes to know they are nearby.  Lieselotte seeks attention in any way she can get it - moving things around her, flickering the lights, changing channels on the radio, and changing the temperature inside the room. Lieselotte will share her emotions to the point where it can overwhelm a person, especially an empath, so be careful about that, and guard your energy. She really would do well with a motherly type of caregiver. She needs to be loved and talked to and sung to, just like you would your own child. Our whole team has had a TON of activity while working with Lieselotte. She NEEDS real love and attention. We get a lot of noise and whispers with her. We hear her little voice quite often. Lieselotte is such a sweet little girl, she just needs a good loving home.  She does great with the PSB7 and the pendulum.  She has a Guardian Angel grandmother but she rarely speaks to us, just watches her grandbaby like a hawk.

The J.D. Kestner doll company made dolls in Germany, in the Waltershausen, Thuringia region, for over 90 years. The earliest dolls were wood and papier mache, and then China. But the dolls that the company is best known for are the bisque better known as porcelain dolls from the late 1800s into the early 1900s. The company produced dolls of many molds and types--the bisque dolls from the company included child dolls, character dolls, all-bisque dolls, lady dolls, baby dolls, and many others.

Production and History of Kestner Dolls
The Kestner doll company started producing dolls in the 1820s (some say as early as 1810) and produced dolls until approximately 1938.

Very little is known about the early history of Kestner  Dolls--the company didn't start to mark dolls until well into the production of bisque dolls. It is known that Johann Daniel Kestner Jr. began producing papier mache and wood dolls at least as early as the early 1920s. The company's production changed with the times, and the doll factory produced china dolls, then bisque dolls, as tastes dictated. Johann died in 1858, and his grandson Adolf took over operations in 1863. Adolf died in 1918, and yet the company continued for another 20 years after. The Kestner factory was one of the biggest employers in the region.

Materials
As mentioned, the original dolls were papier mache and wood. Then, china dolls (glazed porcelain) were made, and later, they produced bisque dolls. The Kestner doll factory was large, and Kestner made doll heads for many other companies as well. Kestner not only made doll heads, but they also made doll bodies of many types, which was unusual since many companies only made heads, or only made bodies in the 1800s.

Basic Types of Kestner Dolls
It is hard to pinpoint a "basic type" of Kestner doll since the company made so many. Collectors today are probably most familiar with the dolly-faced bisque dolls on composition bodies of the late 1800s to early 1900s (such as the 171 mold), baby dolls with composition bodies such as Hilda and the JDK babies, and shoulder-head dolls on kid bodies (turned shoulder head dolls and mold 154, etc). Kestner all-bisque dolls are also known for their quality and modeling.
