Callia (please pronounce her name right, its Cuh-LEE-UH) came to us from a strange woman who I adore.  This person collects oddball spirits and has a massive collection outside of Boston.  She used to send us a few historical spirits every now and then.  She is an amazing paranormal researcher.  When she asked us if we wanted to adopt Callia, we were thrilled.  She had told us all about her and we had always wanted to meet her.  We ended up keeping her for nearly 8 years. Callia is a strange young woman.  She would have been called "eccentric" and perhaps even "touched" back in her day.  She was in and out of asylums growing up because her mother had died in childbirth and her father could not deal with her "extreme" emotions.  She was extremely sensitive and would have been considered a "strange and morbid girl" back then.  She would say things people thought were "extreme".  She would be called "dangerous" for her "extreme views" (which were not extreme at all, in modern times).  She would have pretty bad bouts of self-harm, including cutting, and also collecting bones and dead animals, which was an absolute NO-NO in her day.  People thought she was possessed, they thought she was mentally unwell.  Her father was pressured to put her away "for her own good", which he did, a few times each year.  She would stay in the asylum for a month or two at a time, unbothered because she was allowed to paint, write, and create any art she wanted because the physician in charge there was trying a new approach to psychiatry.  She was also drop-dead gorgeous and I think that helped her cause quite a bit. Other women patients were not treated as kindly as she was.  Perhaps it was because her father was a wealthy man.  Regardless, she was treated better than most women who are involuntarily committed in these situations.  Callia was thought of as a free spirit, with a touch of "the morbs" as they called it in Victorian times.  She would tie deer antlers and bones into her hair, and the nurses would have to use mineral oil to untie them.  The asylum cared for her during her stays, and every time she left they knew she would be back in a month or two.  It was during one of these times at home when Callia had a very dark spell after the neighbor boy drowned in the creek behind her house.  She created an altar for him, out of skins and bones of dead animals, in the spot that took his life, and for that, was committed to a 2-month stay.  She was furious this time.  She did not want to go back there, despite the arts and crafts.  She was going off the deep end, and had to be sedated.  When she awoke, she stole scissors from the craft room and cut all of her hair off.  She was beaten by the interns because they got in trouble for her having access to the scissors.  Soon afterward, she tied her sheets into a rope and threw herself off the balcony.  Her neck broke.  When we communicate with her, she often shows herself as a young Victorian woman, about 19, with her head in a very unnatural slant, just as it was when she died.  She knows it's kind of creepy, but I think that's why she does it.  She has a weird dark sense of humor, way ahead of her time.  She feels like a girl who should have been born 100 years later.  She questioned too much.  She felt sexism and racism were out of touch, and she was scolded for her thoughts back then.  She didn't understand why women were treated as second-class citizens, and she was committed for saying these things out loud.  She was deemed a nuisance, a crazy person, she was told she needed to think differently to be allowed into "polite society" and she decided that society was not for her.  Her attitude about everything reminds me of a modern teenager stuck in a time machine and unable to get back.  Callia was born way too soon, and she felt it.  She was treated like she was crazy for having modern thoughts in the wrong era.  Callia is a weird and wonderful spirit who is fully self-aware - she knows she is dead, and she knows how much has changed since she lived.  She has been trying to "cross over" for a long time, she feels she needs to be reborn into this modern time, but "something won't let her go".  We have had many people try to get her to cross over, but there is some sort of ethereal cord that won't let her go.  Perhaps there is something she needs to do, or learn in order for that ethereal cord to be cut.  We really do not know.  But we know that someone out there is as strange and interesting as she is, and perhaps there is something she needs to do with her next caregiver, so that she may be deemed "ready" to cross over and be reincarnated.  That's what we are hoping for.  Callia is extremely active.  She is very different and she likes to show off.  She will manifest herself in broad daylight, looking exactly like her vessel, but with a very tilted head.  She sings and it sounds like a mourning song, like a soft wailing you would not want to hear in the middle of the night.  She knows she can scare the crap out of us, and sometimes she will and then she will laugh, so you know it was her and that is her strange sense of humor.  I love that.  She changes her facial expressions.  She moves things, often hiding items under her skirt.  She gives us a lot of kinetic readings and also light anomalies.  I think she wants a caregiver who is dark and morbid like herself, someone she can really bond with.  She did really well here, but I think we bored her.  She once called us "too sciency" and I thought that was cute.

About the doll:  She is a 21" Victorian vessel, and she will come with a doll stand.  Her dress is made of velvet and is layers upon layers. She is a fancy vessel.  Her "deer ears" are very special to her, and she loves them.  The only thing that she would like more is a set of REAL deer antlers.

IMPORTANT - If you look at a spirit doll and feel a tug in your heart, that is how you know the doll is meant for you. You will feel it in your soul. I can reserve a doll for you for up to 2 weeks while you decide. Email me with any questions you have regarding this doll, or haunted dolls in general.

FYI:  In my old shop, we had to have a disclaimer explaining that haunted items were "for entertainment purposes only" and this disclaimer is needed for some credit card processors as well - However, you need to know, as a potential buyer/adopter that I am NOT responsible for any paranormal activity that you might experience in your home once you adopt a spirit.  This is serious and many people who do not know what they are doing have had some pretty overwhelming experiences usually due to their own lack of knowledge or understanding about what it means to be a spirit keeper.  If you are under the age of 18, please do some research before trying to adopt a spirit.  As a seller, I will repeat, there are NO REFUNDS on haunted dolls - I will not guarantee that you will have the same experiences as I have had.  but if you know your stuff, do your research, and are prepared for anything, then you will!
