Benoite Haunted Doll ~ HUGE 28" Antique Bru Jne 13 Bébé Full Bisque Jointed Body ~ Paranormal ~ Watcher Spirit ~ Poetry and Romance
Benoite is pronounced Bun-wah, and she is very interesting. I adore her. She is a tad morbid, but not on purpose. She was raised in a family of surgeons and back then, it was really a gruesome thing. I think she died in 1906. Her father and older brothers were all constantly learning anatomy. Books were left around. She was a curious girl and she knew how to read from an early age, thanks to her mother. That was rare back then, but not in her circles. Daughters of the wealthy always knew how to read, it was everyone else that they denied the knowledge. Benoite's mother was ahead of her time as well. She had wanted to be a surgeon, the knowledge was there, but it was against the rules for her to learn it. She learned as much as she could anyway, as a nurse it was ok for her to learn "some things". The sexism and classism that was rampant back then were disgusting. Benoite knew it, she and her mother talked about things like this and what they could do, because of their privilege, to change it. But the men could not hear their plans. Benoite lived in fear that her father would put her mother into an asylum because that was a thing back then. "Unruly women" were often taken care of in that way. And he was always threatening to do just that. So they were careful. She and her mother had big plans, and it all rested on Benoite getting a quality education and finding a husband that was not a threat. This was harder than you would think. They lived at the edge of the time when arranged marriages were a thing, but her father considered that practice to be barbaric, so there was no way he would do that to her. But she had to be very careful choosing a man who would take her seriously. Her mother thought she would find someone at University. Women were not allowed to learn "just anything" back then, but they were allowed to go to school. She had planned to attend the following autumn. But then tragedy struck. She began to fall ill. Her mother also fell ill, and one of her brothers. It caused a raging fever and within days, death. They lived in a large estate outside of Normandy, France. She says they were all laid to rest under the main hall floors, where their ancestors were also buried. She doesn't;t know how she came to be attached to the vessel, but she has some memories that make us think she might have been conjured from that same building she died in, a little over a century later. The woman who gave her to Lisa also thought she was conjured because the woman SHE had got her from had told her a crazy tale about an investigation in a decrepit old French countryside manor and that's where Benoite's vessel was found. Her memories and dreams lead us to believe that is exactly how she came to be. She is an AMAZING Dreamweaver, but more than that, she is highly communicative in terms of telepathy and using ALL the tools we have ever given her. She has a thing for poetry, and we are talking about Yates and even Shakespear. She is a romantic at heart because she was never allowed to think of true love - she always had to think logically, especially when it came to boys. We often hear her chatting, at a quick pace, in French, usually, although she does seem to know plenty of English. Her mother had been British. She flirts a lot, and we think it's because she realizes that her mother's rules no longer apply to her. She is a Watcher Spirit, and by that I mean, she keeps an eye on everything going on in the house. Kind of like a guardian - but she is more interested in actually seeing and participating in the world around her. It's as if she is enchanted with the "modern" world she has found herself a part of. Interestingly, if anyone is interested in turn-of-the-century morbid anatomy, she has a lot of strange visuals that she shares with us. It's really a strange thing to do trance meditation with her. Lucid dreaming is intense as well thanks to her awesome ability to share emotions, imagery, and even smells with us. She does great on the PSB7 and other electronic devices too. She loves the Ouija.
About the Doll: Her body is jointed bisque porcelain, with little hearts engraved on every limb. Her dress still has the tag on it, it's some fancy heirloom reproduction dress made for living kids. Her face and body are meticulously hand-painted. She will NOT come with a stand, only because she is SO BIG and dainty, I think she would tumble out of it and break, she is very heavy. She will be incredibly expensive to ship, which is why she is priced a bit higher than normal.
About Bru Jne Dolls: The Bru Jne & Cie company was located in France and manufactured some of the most beautiful and treasured bisque dolls that have ever been made. Dolls are commonly referred to as "Bru" dolls, but nothing about them is common. Want to make an antique doll collector faint, mention you bought a Bru doll for less than a few thousand dollars and have some smelling salts handy or they may think you are referring to, just a pair of shoes. After 1899 Bru Jne et Cie became a member of the Society Française de Fabrication de Bébé & Jouets - SFBJ and continued to produce their Bru and Bébé dolls thru 1958. Because of the great value attached to Bru dolls, they are reproduced by modern artists more often than other antique dolls.·̩ ｡ ☆ ﾟ｡ ･ ·̩ ｡ ☆ ﾟ｡･ ·̩ ｡ ☆ ﾟ｡＊ ｡* + ＊ ･ ｡☆ ☆ *
