Hertha is a fun one.  She is very German, and I do not mean that as an insult, but she is very bossy and opinionated.  She is very stern and straightforward.  She is a trip, and she certainly expects to be listened to.  She is highly active and very communicative, and she is a fun one to have over with your friends.  She loves to use motion-activated cat balls and "prove" she is there.  She likes the attention I think.  She has HUMAN HAIR and it makes a big difference i think.  She is a no-nonsense type of person, and she likes to give advice.  Warning though, she is stuck in the past, so any advice she gives you is straight out of 1906.  We think she was in her late 20s when she died.  She considers herself to be a guardian, only because nothing makes sense as to why she is still here, and not in heaven, "where she belongs".   She has this fear that this is her own private hell and she is supposed to DO something to earn a place in heaven.  She hates modernity.  She hates "modern women's fashion" and she definitely hates what the world has become.  She is always asking questions about life though, she is curious! She thinks we should all be society women, having teas with one another while our husbands invent things and bring home the money. She thinks running around without a corset is a cardinal sin, but I think in the 12 years I have had her, she has come to accept that this is how we are now.  She doesn't like it, but she has come to accept it.  Hertha is a stern protector of the home, she doesn't let anyone even remotely shady get in here without some sort of warning from her.  She is all about synchronicities and coincidences.  She can get loud, like the time a roofer came to offer his services here and she did not like him at all - books began to fall out of the bookcase upstairs. One by one because she thought we didn't hear her with the first book.  This is how she is. I think she feels compelled to be tactless with us because we are not her society friends, and she doesn't have to use her public manners with us.  So she has no censor button. She will tell us straight up, "Your home is unlivable in these conditions" or "That man is a scourge, get him out of here" or "You will go to hell with that vessel inside this home". She would rack our knuckles with a ruler if she could.  Hertha died in her home in 1907 or 1908.  She had "consumption" which back then was a blanket diagnosis for anything that was wrong and they did not know how to cure it.  They gave her loads of laudanum and other tinctures.  One of them gave her snake venom in moonshine and she said it was the best "medicine" she had gotten at that asylum.  She died in England at a hospital for women.  She was in the hospital, the "asylum" with a ton of other women, some of whom were placed there involuntarily by their husbands, for women issues, such as "reading too much".  Because that was normal for her times, she didn't see why we got all upset about it when she told us that.  She thought it was perfectly normal for husbands to place their wives in institutions when it was deemed necessary.  Her husband did it for her, after only one year of marriage.  She had come from a wealthy family, and I am not convinced her husband didn't poison her for that reason alone.  He had full control of her money the minute she got sick.  She scoffs at that idea but admits they were not "in love" yet, as it was an arranged situation.  I feel bad for Hertha. But she doesn't see anything wrong with ANY of it, so I let it go.  We can not place modern standards on our history at all. Hertha is an excellent watcher, she keeps an eye on everything in the home.  She is very much a caretaker for human souls, and although she is a bit strict, it is a good feeling to have someone who cares so much to watch over the household and its people.  She is really wonderful for people who need a "Guardian Angel" type of spirit in the home. Hertha can speak English, German, and French. Hertha is one of the most vocal and communicative vessels that we had ever worked with. She is extremely intelligent and very funny, and she absolutely knows she is a ghost.  She is self-aware and is fully knowledgeable that she died and it is now many years later.  She hates it, but she knows and accepts it.  She is highly intuitive and she can read people with utmost precision.  Nothing gets by her. Hertha shares her experiences, through very detailed dreams and visual imagery.  She is an intelligent woman.  She needs to be with a caregiver who will treat her with respect and dignity.She is fast on the Ouija and also likes the pendulum.  Dream weaving and telepathy are also excellent methods of communication. She likes everything from dowsing rods to the spirit box, and she really likes seance-style communication sessions.   She wants to be heard.  She is very active.
